Image Color Clusterer

Image Color Clusterer began with a question: what would the cover of Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon look like with its pixels sorted by color? That led to other album covers, and a different way of looking at familiar artwork: take apart the image and line up its colors to see how much yellow, red, blue, or black is really there.

The experiment grew into a design tool. Change the sorting method, block size, and palette to explore the relationship between color and composition. Use it to study an image, find an unexpected visual direction, or create a still or looping animation from the colors already inside it.
